Owen Cross

River Guide / Kayak Master

Hailing from the wonderful Northern California college town of Chico, Owen learned to whitewater kayak at the age of 15 and soon fell in love with rivers and the communities they cultivate. By the age of 20, enticed by the prospect of endless river trips and the privilege to share them with others, he got a job as a raft guide, working on California’s American rivers. The next season, lured by multiday expeditions and desert canyons, Owen found himself working for Adrift and became enamored with Dinosaur National Monument.

In the off-season, Owen can be found in his hometown. He is both a carpenter and a student, slowly working through his bachelor’s degree, having attended 3 universities, changed majors 5 times, and enjoyed a healthy sprinkling of gap years. He continues to pursue his passions for whitewater kayaking as well as ski touring and mountain biking. As a child, Owen played both guitar and banjo, but after a decade-long hiatus has been reinspired to play music thanks to the wonderful musicians he has met through RiverWonderGrass.
