“41 Years Rafting and Exploring the Yampa River A Special Yampa Rafting Trip” with Veteran Guide Patrick Tierney Ph.D. Author of a 2016 Award-Winning Book on the Yampa.

Join us for a unique 5-day Yampa River trip offering a chance to learn from former National Park Service kayak-based Yampa River ranger, professor/researcher, former Adrift Adventures guide and author of an award-winning book on the Yampa River, Dr. Patrick Tierney. Pat has been working professionally on the Yampa for the last 41 years, and will tell stories about the wildlife, geology, Native American inhabitants, rapids of the canyon and all the wild things that have happened; and lead our group on hikes to some spectacular but lesser visited places in canyons of Dinosaur National Monument. At the end of the trip you’ll receive a personalized signed copy of his book with photographer John Fielder titled: Colorado ‘s Yampa River, Free Flowing from the Flattops to the Green. It was winner of the 2016 Best Nature Book of the Year, from the Colorado Humanities.

Pat will offer lively talks along the river, on rafts and at camp about how in the entire vast watershed of the Southwest seven state Colorado River system, the Yampa is the last major river that remains truly wild and free-flowing. His book documents in words and photographs how the Yampa flows out of the mountains of north central Colorado and into the canyon country of Dinosaur National Monument, through 2,000 ft. high golden cliffs and wooded canyons carved by rain, snow, frost, and wind. The Yampa’s natural stream flow pattern and protected canyons are home to some of the last remaining healthy populations of river fishes and other rare wildlife. Above the river, desert bighorn sheep dance high on the cliffs, while eagles ride the currents in soft, circular patterns and peregrine falcons make dives for prey at blistering speed. There are miles of sheer, white and black tiger-striped walls, side-canyon waterfalls and 800-year- old Indian rock art. We’ll explore as many of these features as possible but still have time to relax around the campfire. Space is limited, so register now.

Leave No Trace Camping
There are no roads on this section of the Yampa River, so all food and gear will be packed on rafts and brought to a remote camp each night. If you pack it in, plan to pack it out. Portable toilets, privacy tents and hand-washing stations are provided.
