Joel Schabas

River Guide

Growing up in Vancouver Canada, Joel formed his love for the river whilst canoe tripping. He moved on to kayaking and rafting at Thompson Rivers University in their Adventure Studies Program. He has spent most of his life in British Columbia’s Coast Mountains, and South Eastern Rockies. He is passionate about environmental conservation and forest ecosystems. He is also a classically trained cellist and now plays mostly bluegrass. He came to Adrift to pursue his two passions of paddling and music and has stuck around because of the guide comradery, the mystical canyons, the history, the whitewater and of course the warmer weather. Don’t complain about cold water or rain around Joel or he’ll be sure to tell you to take a shot of maple syrup eat some poutine and paddle beneath a glacier in British Columbia. In the off season Joel is an avid backcountry freeride skier, and enjoys rock climbing, mountaineering, skateboarding and recording and performing music. Joel can’t wait to share his passions of music and whitewater with you in the canyon!
